  • Can you briefly describe the business areas that you work in and your primary tasks?

I work within the Operations Team in the Technical Excellence department, where I have been a Project Manager for almost three years. My primary task as Project Manager has been to oversee and support the development and implementation of several operational safety procedures and a supporting an IT tool called eCoW.

  • What are the most exciting and challenging tasks in your job?

The most challenging but also exciting task in my job has been to implement the project and ensure it is embedded in the organization. The project has affected most of our organization by changing the way people have been working for several years.

However, changing the routines and existing ways of working comes with natural challenges. Therefore, it was our mission to train and educate the end-users and support them through the transition. A learning and great recognition for me during the project has been, that when working with people, we can make the best of plans and perform detailed impact analysis, but as people are people and have opinions and feelings, the interaction is just as important as a solid plan.

  • How are you using your education in your current position?

In my current job role, I mainly use the managerial and change management aspects of my HD education. However, it was my technical background, as a marine engineer, which qualified me for my previous position offshore, which again has been the enabler for my current position. Overall, I think the combination of technical background, practical experience and managerial training have been an advantage working in a project of this nature.

  • What are the three most important things to you in your job at Total?

First, clear goals. This helps us to get a feeling of what we have to achieve, which also allow us to align on priorities. Second, collaboration, because this is how we get things done the right way. Finally, I would say development and career management. If you choose to, then you do not only have a job in Total but a career with a longer-term perspective.

It is a company with a multinational profile and several branches. There is an enormous amount of opportunities for candidates to be exposed to many different disciplines and work together with experts within different areas.
