How would you describe your field and main tasks?
I work as an associate for BCG in Copenhagen solving complex business issues for some of the most interesting companies within all industries. As an associate, I mainly work with doing analysis and presenting insights to the client and the team, while also ensuring that the insights lead to concrete actions and change.
Currently, I work on a big transformation program, where we are fundamentally changing the ways-of-working for a major company. This gives a lot of opportunities and different tasks for an associate, since you need to both develop recommendations and implement them to achieve the impact. Therefore, you need to develop sharp analysis and insights, but also create the right mindset of change for the client. Furthermore, we work closely with the company and executive management team on a day-to-day basis, which gives insights into how major corporations function, as you represent BCG in meetings at all levels of the organization.

What are the most exciting and challenging aspects of your job?
The most challenging and exciting part of my job is the fast pace, ever-changing tasks, and the responsibility that we are given from day one. No two days are the same. As soon as you have solved a problem or gotten too comfortable with something, new challenges are put in front of you to solve. Both on the same case but also from case to case. You constantly learn and develop your toolbox within a wide variety of areas, making you stronger and better every day.
Finally, you are given a lot of responsibility from day one. You drive your own module on a case, and within BCG you are responsible to charter your own course. You are given the platform to learn and grow, and you just need to take charge.

How do you apply your education to your job?
As a quantitative economist, I have a strong background within data analysis and numbers, which I can apply every day as a consultant. But my education has also given me tools and a mindset for how to structure and solve problems on a more general level.
As a consultant, it is important to be able to structure a problem and break it down in order to solve it. Through solving complex calculations, creating quantitative models, and writing papers, I have learned to structure and tackle problems – a highly useful skill for a consultant.

What are the three most important things to you in your job at BCG?
Working with the best and brightest
The people in BCG are the smartest people I have ever encountered in any company. Working with my colleagues is inspiring and you learn from each other every day. There is always someone in BCG who has worked on something similar and is happy to give advice and guidance. People are always willing to talk, and I have never met anyone, who would not take time to help a colleague.
The steep learning curve
Working with smart people on solving complex issues creates a steep learning curve. I have learned and grown more in my time at BCG than during any of my years at university. You are constantly challenged and thrown into the deep end, but you always find a way to solve those challenges, and you learn a lot in the process.
Having a job with unlimited opportunities
BCG has unlimited opportunities, and you have a lot of influence on your own career. If you want to travel the world, you have the opportunity to work in other countries on individual cases or transfer for shorter or longer periods of time. If you are interested in a specific industry or topic, you can specialise and choose to become an expert, as BCG works within all industries and with all topics. And if you just want to try different things and move from topic to topic, you can also choose to do that. The possibilities are endless.

Why do you consider BCG a desirable company to work in?
BCG is a desirable company to work in because of the three points above. You will not find another company with this amount of talented people, where you can learn and grow as fast, and where the opportunities are unlimited. I joined BCG because I wanted to have the best start to my career, and this is exactly what I have here!
