Content of the programme
In the Master in Banking and Finance you will focus on:
- investment banking in international financial markets
- regulation of banks and other financial institutions worldwide
- central bank policies and commercial banks’ strategic allocation, funding and investment decisions
- risk management and the sustainability of financial systems and investments.
Career Prospects
Upon completion of the MSc in Banking and Finance you are prepared for a wide range of positions in (international) financial institutions: central and commercial banks, consulting firms, investment funds, hedge funds, insurance firms, pension funds or financial market regulators.

Entry Requirements
For admission to a Master’s programme, a Bachelor’s degree, among other requirements, is mandatory. Just like all academic Bachelor’s programmes in Economics in the Netherlands, U.S.E. has taught all courses online as of March 2020 and provided students ample opportunity to graduate on time. Therefore the requirement to have a completed Bachelor’s degree for admission to the Master’s programme will be maintained.
Eligiblie are students with:
- A BSc of a research university in Economics or Economics and Business Economics, with substantial quantitative background, preferably with some degree of specialisation in Banking and Finance. The International Office assesses all international credentials according to the credential evaluation criteria of the Nuffic (the Netherlands Organisation for international cooperation in Higher Education), and advises the Admissions Committee on this subject;
- A good command of English. Check the specific English proficiency requirements below.
You must have solid and demonstrable knowledge in the following fields:
- Microeconomics
- Mathematics
- Macroeconomics
- Corporate Finance
- Econometrics or Advanced Statistics
We specifically encourage applications from students with a background in the Natural Sciences, Engineering and Mathematics. Other degrees (e.g. Liberal Arts and Sciences) are also welcome to apply provided they have a substantial quantitative element. In all cases students are expected to have knowledge of the fields listed above.
The Admissions Committee accesses your application and decides whether it believes you have demonstrated enough skills and knowledge to successfully complete the Master’s programme within the nominal duration of 1 year.
The committee takes into account:
- The level of the required knowledge and academic skills;
- Mastery of research methods and techniques;
- Your motivation and talent;
- Your command of the English language.
The admissions Committee bases its assessment and decision on the documents you submit. In some cases we might ask you for extra information such as course description, or invite you to an (Skype) interview.
