På
Danmark Linjen vil du lære om, hvordan en velfærdsstat fungerer. Du vil få indsigt i familieformer og relationer mellem mand og kvinde og børn, der er baseret på ligestilling mellem kønnene. Du vil lære om et samfund, der på de fleste niveau´er er baseret på samarbejde og demokrati. Du vil blive bekendt med dansk historie fra vikingetiden til de folkelige bevægelser i det 19. og 20. århundrede. På
Danmark Linjen vil du få en større forståelse af de andre nordiske lande og deres indbyrdes samarbejde.
Content
The class consists of two parts:
- History:
A brief introduction to key issues in Danish history such as the Viking age, the reformation, the agrarian reforms, the industrial revolution, and the main transformations in the 20th century. Special attention will be give to selected representatives from Danish cultural history such as Hans Christian Andersen, painters from the "golden age" in the first half of the 19th century, the composer Carl Nielsen and the writer Karen Blixen as well as some of the most well known and influential architects and filmmakers of the 20th century..
- Society, welfare state and education:
This part will introduce our students to: Geography and basic information about DK. Local communities and municipalities. Forms of family life, generational conflicts and gender. Production, economy and taxes in DK. Trade unions and the labor market. Immigration and integration of foreigners. The political system and people's participation in politics and social life. Foreign policy and attitudes to foreigners and to other countries. The psychology and mentality of the Danes. Daily life in Denmark. Alternative institutions.
A special attention will be given to the educational system in Denmark which will be examined through an extensive case study of educational policies and practices from kindergarten to university, and include visits to educational institutions. The teaching will to a large extent include field trips to local institutions, businesses and sights of cultural interest around Elsinore.
